One of the easiest, most highly recommended hiking trails in the valley is the Juniata Towpath Trail. With three miles of easy trail for various levels of hikers and an out-and-back style of route, it's perfect for a nice outing with the family. It is also an amazing trail to catch glimpses of your favorite feathered and furry woodland friends. This trail is perfect for both first-timers and returning hikers.

Now, if you are looking to mix your hiking with historical experience, Warriors Path State Park is the destination for you. There are three hundred and forty-nine acres of woodlands surrounded on three sides by the Raystown branch of the Juniata River. This park lies very near the famous path used by Iroquois in their war with the Cherokee and various other American Indians.

If you are looking for the perfect picnicking spot, then Reeds Gap State Park in Milroy is the ideal place for you. There are tons of picnic tables, offering plentiful options to stop and enjoy a snack or meal along the way. If you prefer to picnic the old fashioned way, you can lay out a blanket next to the river or under some of the enormous pine trees and enjoy your time in the forest.
